| Marie was the first dog I saw collapse with EIC. It was a frightening experience, but she recovered in a few minutes. It was not until information about EIC started circulating on the Internet a few years later that we knew the probable cause of her episode. We submitted blood samples from Marie and her brother, Perp, to the researchers. When the test was finally developed 10 years later, it was confirmed that Marie DID have the EIC genes and that her brother was a carrier. Although I never used either of them in my breeding program, I did purchase a Perp daughter later (Rosie) and still have carriers in my breeding program today from that line. We recommend EIC testing for any dog being considered for breeding so that the number of affected dogs can be reduced. |
